Calgary Homes in Woodlands Community

In the southwest of Calgary, Alberta is the residential neighbourhood of Woodlands. The Woodlands community was originally developed in 1976 along Fish Creek Park, and makes up one half of the Woodcreek community (the other half being Woodbine). Over the years, this nature-filled neighbourhood has increased in popularity and has become an escape from the hustle (and housing prices) of the more central, busy areas in Calgary.

There is also easy access out of the city on highway 22X (Stoney Trail) to Bragg Creek and the Rockies (Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis).

Woodlands Neighbourhood – Housing and Population

According to the City of Calgary’s civic census, the Woodlands is primarily home to residents within the age bracket of 20-64 (average age 40), with a population of about 6,000 people. The Woodlands area is beloved by young families looking to settle down in an affordable part of the city, and retirees getting away from the bustling inner-city.

The majority of the residential homes available are single-family dwellings, however, duplexes, apartments, and townhouses are also available for those looking for smaller properties.

Homes in the community range from $200,000 to $1M along the Fish Creek Park ridge and Canyon Meadows Golf Course.

Woodlands Neighbourhood - Recreation

One of the defining features of the Woodlands neighbourhood is the astonishing views and close proximity to nature. Bordering the eastern and southern part of the community are the abundance of trees, parks, trails, and picnic spots of Fish Creek Provincial Park. Backing onto this provincial park allows residents to take part in the various recreational opportunities the area has to offer. Homes near Fish Creek Park offer walking, hiking, biking, swimming, and other outdoor activities. The park is also known for hosting unique and engaging events throughout the year.

In addition to the outdoor recreational options available with such intimate access to Fish Creek Park, Woodlands is also directly across from the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. The golf club accommodates event hosting, has a lounge, dining, a pro-shop, and golfing memberships.


Woodlands Neighbourhood – Services and Amenities

The Woodcreek Community Association – serving both the Woodlands neighbourhood and the Woodbine neighbourhood – provides residents with the latest events, news, and recreational programs. All current programs can be found on the community association’s main website. To partake in these programs, memberships may be purchased and renewed to continually support the neighbourhood, and are available for the low price of $20 per family, or $10 for seniors.

Woodlands is the ideal home for young families due to the large number of recreational opportunities, community events, as well as access to the Woodlands Elementary School (Calgary Board of Education). This school is the only Elementary school available in the immediate area, however, more schools and child care options may be found in the adjacent community of Woodbine.

The community of Woodlands features a few small businesses within strip malls, with other amenities and services accessible just outside of the area. Here you will enjoy such amenities as a grocery store, bank, drug store, restaurants, and other desired services.


Woodlands Neighbourhood – Getting Around

The Woodlands neighbourhood is easily journeyed by transit using the community-central bus route (bus route 56). There are other transit options available that will take you further outside of the neighbourhood, although some route connections may be required. For those working in the Calgary downtown core, it can be reached via transit (roughly 1-hour transit trip), or is accessed by a 30-minute commute by car.
