Calgary Homes in Woodbine Community

Originally developed in 1980, the Woodbine neighbourhood in Calgary, located in the southwestern corner of the city along Fish Creek Park, is one half of the Woodcreek community (the other half being the Woodlands neighbourhood). Located on the western edge of the city, homes for sale in Woodbine are highly sought-after for their exclusive proximity to nature in Fish Creek Park, and quiet residential feel.

The Woodbine neighbourhood offers residents access to essential amenities and services, and various recreational opportunities. Woodbine has been identified as an ideal Calgary Neighbourhood for young families because of the closeness to schools and child care options. It is also popular for retirees due to its quiet and peaceful surroundings and traditional homes. According to a City of Calgary census, many of the families in this area are 3-person families – most with children being in the age range of 5-14 years.

Many of the Woodbine homes are single-family homes, and only 10% of residential dwellings are townhouses.

Homes in thie community range from $200,000 to $1.4M+ with homes along the ridge overlooking Fish Creek Park and clear mountain views.

Woodbine Neighbourhood - Recreation

On the southern part of the Woodbine neighbourhood is Fish Creek Provincial Park – a lush green space complete with biking/walking paths and stunning sights of the river. Being so close to the park, residents are able to enjoy these green spaces for picnics and other outdoor activities such as walking, hiking, biking, swimming, and much more. Fish Creek Provincial Park is also known to host a number of events throughout the year. For those looking for pet friendly activities nearby, Fish Creek Park allows leashed dogs and has vast pathways. As well, Woodbine hosts a large off-leash area just on the outskirts of the neighbourhood.

Woodbine's other green spaces include Woodborough Park, which is situated on the northern side of the neighbourhood, featuring tennis courts, fields, and a baseball diamond. Woodbine is also home to the Woodbine Athletic Park that has two regulated soccer fields and two softball diamonds – available for use with application.

Woodbine Neighbourhood – Services and Amenities

The Woodbine neighbourhood has all of the essential amenities and services including a grocery store, cafes, restaurants, banks, and other such businesses. Most of these shops can be found at Woodbine Square on the eastern side of the Woodbine neighbourhood. Other small businesses and shops can also be found throughout the area, and include everything from salons and spas, to delicious ethnic food restaurants. Although there are no malls or shopping centers, many of these retail options can be accessed just outside of the Woodcreek immediate area in other southwestern neighbourhoods.

 

Woodbine is popular particularly among younger families due to its closeness to schools and child care in the immediate area. The schools/child care available are:

  • Woodbine Day Care Centre
  • Pathway Montessori Preschool

 

In the neighbouring community of Woodsland is the Woodcreek Community Association which also serves the Woodbine area. This community association provides residents with programs, recreation locations, events, and local news. Memberships are obtainable for the affordable price of $20 per family or $10 for seniors.

 

Woodbine Neighbourhood – Getting Around

Getting around in Woodbine is easy with the many walking paths and parkways. Everything is easily accessible by car, and for those using transit there is the Woodbine/Woodlands bus route (bus route 56) that serves the entire neighbourhood. This bus route also leads to transit stations where connections may be taken to other parts of the city. For those working in the downtown central of Calgary, trips taken by transit are roughly 1-hour, whereas commute by car will take roughly 30-minutes.
